This month St Cuthbert Mayne School hosted the Level 1 Tag Rugby festival for year 3/4. All primary schools from the STCM cluster of primary schools were invited and Priory, St Marychurch, Queensway and St Margaret’s attended all bringing an A and B team.
With the Rugby World Cup in full swing this was an opportunity for children to engage in the modified version of the game which is still dependant on the traditional skills of agility, speed and spatial awareness.
Prior to the competition Miss Truscott and Miss Roberts had been into all 4 schools to deliver an introductory session on the sport and how it is played. On the day of the event the competition was run as an A pool and a B pool with all the teams in each pool playing each other. The games were umpired by Mr Leverton and three year 11 Rugby playing students who did an excellent job.
In the A pool the eventual winners, having won all their games comprehensively, were St Margaret’s who go on to play in the level 2 Torbay wide competition along with St Marychurch who were runners up. In the B Pool St Marychurch were victorious. Well done to everyone who competed!
