Drama GCSE – Edexcel
GCSE Drama will give you the opportunity to create your own performance work as well as look at plays written by other people. You will explore all aspects of Drama Including
directing, acting, design and production roles.
Assessment Method
The qualification will be graded and certificated on a nine-grade scale from 9 to 1 where 9 is the highest grade.
Component 1: Devising
40% of the course
Coursework
Create and develop an original devised piece from a stimulus.
Performance of this devised piece or design realisation for this performance.
Analyse and evaluate the devising process and performance in a portfolio controlled assessment.
Performer or designer routes available.
Component 2: Performance of a text
20% of the course
Performance
Students will either perform in and/or design for two key extracts from a performance text.
The performance can be monologue/duologue or Group
performance.
Centre choice of performance text.
Performer or designer routes available.
Component 3: Theatre makers in practice
40% of the course
Written exam
Practical exploration and study of one complete performance text.
You answer questions as a Director/Actor and Designer.
Live theatre evaluation – as a class we go watch a piece of theatre in a professional theatre.
You can bring 500 words of notes about the live theatre
performance into your exam to support with your answers for
Section B.
Students will take the exam in June at the end of Year 11.
