Olympic RFU Referee Inspires STCM Students

On Thursday 11th of May, St Cuthbert Mayne School welcomed current Rugby Football Union, RFU, professional referee Sara Cox, who ran an inspiring session to our KS3 female students.

In 2015, Sara became the first contracted female referee to join the RFU Professional Game Match Officials Team, and also officiated at the Rio Olympics last year.

Typical British weather meant that the session had to be taken inside; however this did not stop Sara explaining how her new job, as a Professional Referee, has sent her to officiate in Dubai, Las Vegas, Australia and more recently Brazil, where she took charge of the Rugby Sevens games at the 2016 Olympic Games. The sheer commitment needed in such a demanding profession surprised our students, with Sara traveling the length and breadth of the country most weeks, while keeping herself physically fit to ensure she is at the top of her game.

St Cuthbert Mayne School feel it is essential to have such highly prolific professionals, such as Sara, to meet our students face to face inspiring them to believe they can achieve anything they put their minds too. The staff and students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we would like to thank Sara for coming in and sharing her experiences with our students here at St Cuthbert Mayne School.
