World Book Day 2020

The Library has been celebrating World Book Day all week.

On Monday and Tuesday we ran our Escape Room “Escape from the Bunker”.  All students in years 7 and 8 who had reached their accelerated reader target this term were invited to take part.  The library door was locked and they had 20 minutes to solve the puzzles and find the key to escape!  It was highly competitive and good team work skills were required.  The winning team 7JUB team B were victorious in 8 minutes and 52 seconds!  It was so popular that we had special requests from a group of year 10 boys to join in.  Of course we put the teachers in to try their hand too, they may have needed a big hint towards the end!

On Thursday we held our World Book Day Feast in the library at lunchtime.  Students who had achieved their reading target were invited to this Heroes and Villains themed event.  The amazing food was made by our fabulous canteen manager, Heidi, and her team.  Many staff members dressed up as book or comic characters for the day for students to find as part of a competition.  Prizes were given to our Millionaire Word readers and our double millionaire word reader.  We are so proud or these fantastic students who have been pushing themselves to achieve so much!

On Friday we held a Book Exchange Cafe; students could swap their world book day voucher for a donated book.  We also had cakes and cookies on sale baked by Mrs Best and Mrs Dennis (school librarians).

There is still time to enter our Big competition to win an Amazon Fire Tablet.  Create a Book Trailer video, no more than one minute in length, and share it with us via our Google Classroom.  You have until the end of term to enter!
