World Book Day 2022 and the Harry Potter Escape Room

This March we celebrated the 25th anniversary of World Book Day.

The Library ran various competitions including finding and identifying members of staff dressed up as book characters.  Among other characters we had Gangster Granny characters, Katniss Everdeen and one of the Three Musketeers!

In the library we held a “Guess the book character dinner party guest” competition too.

The Masked Reader competition was great fun; students had to identify the staff member who was reading behind the mask. The Winning tutor group was surprised by the librarian with a box of chocolates, well done 9JSS!

In the Library we ran our Harry Potter themed escape room “Harry Potter and the Vanishing Cabinet”. Teams had to apply their cunning and wit to find and solve various clues which in turn opened a series of padlocked containers to ultimately take home the reward.  14 teams in years 7 and 8 competed to be the fastest against a small team of sixth formers and a staff team.  Team 7H completed the challenge in the winning time of 8 minutes and 7 seconds.

As part of the competitions we had two Kindle Fire tablets to give away. These were won by Freya in year 7 and Ciara in year 8.

The Carnegie award shortlist was announced today and we have two book groups involved in the shadowing. If you’d like to be involved then pop down to see us.
